Ms. Acosta started her career with the city of Carson on February 6, 1995 as the Director of Finance. In 2000, she was promoted to the position of Administrative Services General Manager, taking on the duties of the head of Human Resources, in addition to her duties as the city’s Chief Financial Officer.
As the head of the Administrative Services Work Group, Ms. Acosta
manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the Finance
Department (purchasing, revenue, accounting, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, payroll, central services and the warehouse)
and the Human Resources Department (employee benefits, labor
relations, recruitment, and worker’s compensation). Ms. Acosta is
also responsible for the preparation of the city’s $227 million
budget, annual financial statements, and labor agreements with all
eight of the city’s bargaining units.
Ms. Acosta received her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles in 1984 and completed her Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in December 1998. Prior to coming to the city of Carson, Ms. Acosta worked for the cities of Torrance, Rancho Mirage, and El Segundo.
