Press Releases Share Print #20-023 CITY OF CARSON EXPANDS PARK ACCESS IN NEW HEALTH ORDER PARK PLAYGROUNDS TO RE-OPEN ON OCTOBER 14, 2020 In accordance with the L.A. County Health Officer’s order, the Carson City Council voted unanimously in its October 6, 2020 Council meeting to further ease restrictions on outdoor recreation by allowing City parks to reopen outdoor playgrounds. The City order continues to require that all park visitors practice physical distancing and wear face coverings when they come within 6 feet of people who are not members of their household. While the order allows going to parks and playgrounds of the city, it also urges visitors to limit their time (30 minutes on playground) with adult supervision and no interactions with others outside of their household.“We’re so pleased that families can take a break from sheltering by visiting the nearby park for exercise and fresh air,” said Carson Mayor Albert Robles. “As we enjoy the park amenities again, let’s continue to do our part to keep each other safe: wear a face covering, don’t socialize in groups, and avoid busy parks if social distancing will be challenging. We’re committed to keeping our parks open the rest of the year and we appreciate the public’s support for health guidelines that are meant to protect us all.”The City of Carson’s 17 Playgrounds will reopen with restricted use on Wednesday, October 14th. City staff will have signage posted at each playground and hand sanitizer available for the public. Additionally, City staff will routinely spray and clean play equipment with safe, non-toxic antiseptic cleaner throughout each day.Ball fields are also open for practices only by organized groups who secure a permit from the City’s Community Services/Parks and Recreation Department. Permittees must bring and only use their own equipment. Additional restrictions will be enforced and required prior to field use permits being issued. City and County agencies reserve the right to close playgrounds and ballfields if infection control or physical distancing requirements cannot be safely adhered to.For more information, please contact the City of Carson Parks and Recreation Division at (310) 847-3570.
