About Us

It is the goal and philosophy of the Recreation and Human Services Division to provide meaningful environmental, recreational, and social experiences; to provide positive recreational opportunities and experiences that will serve the diverse needs and interests of the community; and to provide opportunities that will promote mental awareness, physical fitness, personal and social development.

Recreation and Human Services

Recreation & Human Services supports an active youth and adult sports program, after school programs, and services for the developmentally disabled. These divisions also advocate for opportunities that promote mental awareness, physical fitness, and personal development. The City of Carson proudly provides 12 full service parks, 4 mini parks, 2 swimming pools, 2 aquatic centers, 4 gymnasiums, a Boxing Center, and a Skate Park. All together, Recreation & Human Services provides over 126.5 acres and a total of over 240,000 sq.ft. of building space. Each building, park, pool and gym is dedicated to providing services to its valued citizens. In addition, all full service parks are staffed with full-time and part-time personnel.

Volunteers

Volunteerism has always been the backbone of the American way of life. Our volunteers' talents range from the Red Cross workers who lend helping hands to victims of natural disasters to the volunteer coaches who teach our children about sports and fair play. In Carson, volunteerism is a vital force for the community because it takes a tremendous number of people to ensure that recreational services are provided efficiently and effectively. Volunteers have always made a difference. They have often unselfishly pitched in and given valuable time in delivering important services that otherwise could not be provided. Literally, thousands of volunteers ages 18 and up from all walks of life individually contribute more than 150 hours annually.

If you would like to make a difference and are able to give your time and effort to Carson's recreation programs, you are encouraged to contact your neighborhood park or the Corporate Yard at (310) 847-3570.
