Carson Announces It Will Support World Wildlife Fund
Joins Tens of Millions in Turning Off Lights for Largest Climate Event in History
Since 2007, countries and individuals around the world have made a bold
statement of concern about climate change by turning off their lights for one
hour. On March 18, 2009, the City Council voted in support of Earth Hour 2009 to
encourage local residents and businesses to turn off all non-essential lights on
Saturday, March 28th, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On March 3, 2010, the
Environmental Commission discussed and considered the city’s participation in
Earth Hour 2010. The city of Carson is encouraged to support Earth Hour 2010, a
global climate event led by the World Wildlife Fund. The city of Carson
encourages residents and businesses to go dark for one hour on March 27, 2010 at
8:30 p.m. and help spread the word regarding this event. This event will also
continue to build on the city’s “green” efforts.
Climate change is one of the most serious issues facing the planet today. Last
year during Earth Hour 2009, nearly one billion people in more than 4,000 cities
around the world turned off their lights to demonstrate their commitment and
encourage the world to take action. Earth Hour seeks to provide a forum in which
people can engage on climate issues and seek to find solutions.
