 USEFUL COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Preparation is Your Key Handling and Surviving Emergency Situations

  • Haz Mat Incident Prevention

Emergency Situation Hazardous materials incidents arent’ restricted to spills on the freeways or at local chemical plants or industrial facilities. Common household products could make your home a potential site for a mini-hazmat incident, especially if an earthquake causes bottles and cans containing toxic materials to topple and break.

You can lessen the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances by following instructions on all chemical products, by limiting the quantities that are stored, and by disposing of hazardous household products out of the reach of children. Also store these products in separate containers and on shelves that are secure so that bottles will not fall, break and mix contents together.
  • Bomb Threats

How well would you react if you discovered a strange object at your workplace, received a bomb threat over the phone or received a suspicious package in the mail?
Knowing what to do in advance and how to react to the threat could possibly save your life and the lives of those around you. Develop a bomb threat checklist that gives tips to follow should you receive a threat. It can also be used for documentation purposes in reporting the incident to your security officer or local law enforcement agency. Contact you local la enforcement agency for a sample checklist and information about training.
Every person must be prepared to accept responsibility if we are to enjoy a safe place to live and work.
