  • Tickets to the Gala Ball Now On Sale!!!

    The City of Carson is now selling tickets to the 40th anniversary Gala Ball, which will take place on November 1.

    The tickets are priced at $40 per person, or $320 for a table of 8, and includes superb dinner and entertainment. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center.

    The Gala Ball is one of the many celebrations taking place in 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the City’s incorporation in 1968. The celebration kicked off with a birthday party last February.

    On September 26-28, the City is hosting a three-day extravaganza to jointly celebrate the 40th anniversary and Unity Day, the City’s biggest annual cultural festival.

    In addition to the two events to commemorate the anniversary year, the City of Carson is also still selling 40th anniversary commemorative bricks which will be laid out in a special area at the Civic Center complex. Regular (terra cotta) bricks are available for $150, and a white premium variety is available at $200. Each brick can be personalized with up to three lines of information.

  • September 16 Council Meeting Moved to the Following Night

    The meeting of the City Council and the Carson Redevelopment Agency scheduled for September 16 has been moved to the following night to give way to the special municipal elections and counting of ballots which will take place on September 16.

    By tradition, the City Council reschedules its Council meetings on days that fall on election day. The September 17 meeting will open with ceremonial presentations at 6 p.m. at the Council Chambers of Carson City Hall, located at 701 E. Carson St. in Carson.

    Results of the municipal elections will be certified at a special council meeting scheduled for September 30.

  • Live Election Coverage Aired on Channel 35, Internet

    Live election night coverage will air on cable television and on the internet beginning 8 p.m. on Sept 16 as the City of Carson holds its municipal election.

    Complete and up-to-the-minute coverage from the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center -- where ballots will be transported from precincts citywide -- will begin at the close of all precincts at 8 p.m. and will continue until all the ballots have been counted. Polls will open as early as 7 a.m.

    Viewers can tune in to channel 35 on Time Warner Cable to watch the live coverage on TV, or get a live video stream by logging on to the City’s website at http://ci.carson.ca.us. The public is also welcome to observe the counting process at the Community Center, or get election updates by calling (888) 952-1720 or (310) 952-1727.

  • Farmers Market Moving to SouthBay Pavilion

    The Certified Farmers Market which has served the residents of Carson for many years is moving to the SouthBay Pavilion parking lot beginning September 25, and will mark its relocation with a grand opening at 10 am.

    The Farmers Market, which has served customers at the Congresswoman
    Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center parking lot, will continue to be offered every Thursday, from 8  a.m. – 1 p.m. and will feature some of the same trusted vendors that have served the Carson community for many years.

    The Farmers Market offers customers with fresh produce, organic items, delicacies and freshly-prepared food and a variety of non-perishable goods.

  • 40th Anniversary/Unity Day Extravaganza Slated for Sept 26-28

    The City of Carson, which commemorates its 40th anniversary of incorporation this year, continues its yearlong celebration with a 40th Anniversary/Unity Day Extravaganza on September 26-28.

    The anniversary year kicked-off with a birthday party that was attended by hundreds of citizens last February.

    The celebration will continue on September 26-28 as the City hosts the 40th Anniversary/Unity Day extravaganza at the parking lot of the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center. The event will kick-off with a youth and teen night and will feature various carnival rides from 6-10 p.m.

    Day 2 of the extravaganza will begin with a parade scheduled for 11 a.m., which will begin at Calas Park and end at the Community Center parking lot, where non-stop entertainment will take place until 6 p.m. On site, the community can choose from a variety of food, merchants, displays and activities for every member of the family.

    Day 2 also features the “Leaves of Carson” award given to outstanding volunteers and the “Harmony Award” for community members who stand out in fostering unity in the Carson community.

    The event will conclude on Day 3 with an inspirational reflection featuring church choirs and many others, from 2-6 p.m. Admission to the 3-day event is free, but tickets are required for the carnival ride.
