CALTRANS, City of Carson, and Assemblymember Mike Gipson Join Forces to Offer Residents FREE DUMP DAY On July 9

As part of Governor Newsom’s $1.1 billion Clean California program, the City of Carson, Caltrans and Assemblymember Mike Gipson’s office are joining forces to host a free public Dump Day for all Carson residents. On Saturday, July 9 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Residents are invited to drop off their bulky items and household waste at the Carson City Hall parking lot located at 701 E. Carson Street, Carson, CA 90745.

These Dump Day events discourage illegal dumping along highways and roads by giving communities a convenient place to dispose of bulky items safely, properly, and at no cost. No commercial drop-offs are allowed.

This free Dump Day collection is limited to household items such as old furniture, mattresses, and carpeting. Items not accepted included: car tires, tire carcasses, tire split rims, refrigerators, air conditioners, batteries, propane cylinders, oil or petroleum, contaminated products, vehicles or vehicle engine parts, sand, liquid waste, salt/brine, detergents, used needles/sharps containers, medicine, fluorescent bulbs or tubes, chemical containers, hazardous waste, paint containers, electronics, treated
wood, contaminated dirt, sewage, asbestos.

Over three years, Clean California will remove an additional 1.2 million cubic yards, or 21,000 tons, of trash from the state system alone – enough to fill the Rose Bowl three times over. The initiative has already resulted in 6,300 tons of litter removed from the State Highway System.

CARSON/CLEAN CALIFORNIA DUMP DAY

Date/Time: Saturday, July 9, 2022 - (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
(Or until capacity is reached at the site)
Location: Carson City Hall (parking lot) 701 E. Carson St., Carson, CA 90745

Caltrans reminds motorists to properly secure and tarp all cargo loads prior to driving. Transporting unsecured loads is unsafe, illegal, and pollutes California’s roads and waterways. Loads that are not tied down, enclosed, or secured by tarps or other means, will not be accepted.

Tips for securing your load:

• Completely cover loads with tarps or cargo nets. Debris can escape from gaps.
• Remove loose material and trash before driving.
• Don’t overload – keep materials level with your truck bed.
• Put light items lower, tie large items to the vehicle for traffic safety.
