CARSON VOTERS APPROVES MEASURE K: CARSON ESSENTIAL CITY SERVICES and EMERGENCY PROTECTION MEASURE

During the November 3, 2020 election, Carson residents voted on Measure K, the City of Carson’s Neighborhood Essential City Services and Emergency Protection Measure. According to the Los Angeles County Unofficial Results, as of November 8, 2020, the results are as follows: Measure K, a three-quarters-cent (0.75%) sales tax, is estimated to generate approximately $12 million for the funding of general City services (until ended by voters). All Measure K revenue will be used for Carson municipal purposes such as continuing or adding funding for our unique programs and services in response to: the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disaster/public health emergency preparedness, 9-1-1 emergency response, street maintenance, pothole & sidewalk repair, local small business assistance, environmental protections, and other programs and services that are currently underfunded.

Every penny of revenue from Measure K would go to Carson’s general fund, which could be used for any valid municipal purpose. The 0.75% sales tax applies to certain goods and services within Carson, such as restaurants, bars, and gasoline and retail stores such as clothing stores. It does not apply to most groceries or the services of a doctor, dentist or attorney. It is worth noting that according to a study done in 2017, 89% of the sales tax is expected to be collected from visitors to Carson. The City is grateful that Carson residents supported this important measure. For more information about Measure K in English and Spanish, please call (310) 952-1750.
