Welcome to the Winter Edition
of the City of Carson's Community Services Guide!
Welcome to the 2019/2020 Winter Edition of the City of Carson's Community Services Guide!

During this holiday season, the Community Services Department would like to wish all the residents and community members wonderful holidays and a prosperous new year! We are looking forward to 2020 and the exciting new projects that are in store for our community!

Our parks and community center were packed this summer with activities and special events. A memorable and historic event that took place on August 10, 2019: the official renaming of Scott Park to James M. Foisia Park. The momentous occasion was celebrated with the presence of several dignitaries, guest speakers, entertainment, children activities, and free food for the community. James M. Foisia was honored for his contributions to the community and the impact he made on the lives of all those he served and worked with him. The Park Renaming Ceremony brought close to a thousand attendants of all ages.

This past year, our Enrichment Program was rehomed to Foisia Park to hold its regular classes. The 3-in-1 Camp and the Teen Program was held at Stevenson Park. Enrichment ended their summer with great productions including the "Best in Broadway Show", the "Lion King Jr.", and the movie premier of "Destination Procrastination: Break the Bullies." Calas Park went through renovations this year and praises on the uplift have been received. Another accomplishment for the department was the installation of Wi-Fi at the Community Center which is the first step in having Wi-Fi service at all of the Community Service Department facilities.

For 2020, the inclusive accessible playground at Dolphin Park will be completed. Carriage Crest Park will be reopened later in the year. We anticipate responses for funding from Measure A and Prop 68 that will also enable the renovations of other parks in the city. The winter season has community activities in store including Winterfest, Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Black History Month. Basketball season will be coming to an end, but we will be gearing up for baseball season. During the week of winter break, the City offers childcare programs for ages 5-12 at Day Camps held at Calas Park, Carson Park, Del Amo Park, Dolphin Park, and Veterans Park. For more information on these programs and activities, please contact your local park.

We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have to improve our parks and programs. Please feel free to contact us at (310) 847-3570. Stay healthy and safe this winter and during the holiday season. We hope you enjoy the activities and events brought to you by the Community Services Department. Remember, the future is unlimited in Carson and parks make life better!
