Press Releases Share Print #17-014 Carson Celebrates Juneteenth with Music and Festivity The City of Carson and the Carson Citizens Cultural Arts Foundation will be presenting non-stop entertainment and many fun activities for the entire family as we host the 2017 Juneteenth Rhythm and Blues Celebration, which this year will feature special tributes to Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross.The festivities will take place on June 17, 2017 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Mills Park in Carson, located at 1340 E. Dimondale Drive in the City of Carson. The event is free and open to the public.Headlining this year’s event is one and only world famous musical artist Howard Scott. Howard Scott is the lead singer of the group that brought us the following songs as we all know: Low Rider, Cisco Kid, and Slipping Into Darkness. In addition, Greg & the Greg Rose Band will be doing a special tribute to Teddy Pendergrass, and Terry Steele will be doing a special tribute to Luther Vandross. Other performers for the all-day music festival include Henry Johnson, Rhandi and Associates, Sophisticated Dance, Inc., Saxophonist Donald Hayes, Christian Fellowship Chorale, and DJ Alcatraz.“On behalf of all the citizens of the great City of Carson, I extend my sincerest appreciation to the Carson Citizens Cultural Arts Foundation for their exceptional dedication in ensuring a successful event each year to celebrate this important day in American history and I extend a heartfelt welcome to all our guests,” said Carson Mayor Albert Robles.Juneteenth marks the date in history when African-American slaves in Texas first received word that all slaves were free.
