CITY OF CARSON ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF CITY HALL, CARSON EVENT CENTER, AND SEVERAL PARK FACILITIES ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2025

CITY OF CARSON ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF CITY HALL, CARSON EVENT CENTER, AND SEVERAL PARK FACILITIES ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2025, IN HONOR OF NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING FOR FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER

Carson, CA – During the council meeting on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes declared Thursday, January 9, 2025, as a city holiday to allow residents and city employees the opportunity to reflect on President Carter’s impact. In observance of the National Day of Mourning for the late former President Jimmy Carter, City Hall, the Carson Event Center, and some park facilities will be closed.

Below are specific parks/programs and the times they will be available on Thursday, January 9, 2025:

Anderson Park: CLOSED
Calas Park: CLOSED. Drama class cancelled
Carson Park: 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Youth Sports Basketball Games
Carriage Crest Park: CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION
Del Amo Park: CLOSED
Dolphin Park: CLOSED
Dominguez Park: CLOSED, Karate will be moved to Foisia Park.
Foisia Park: 5 p.m. –8 p.m. – Enrichment/ Youth Sports Basketball Games
Fabela Boxing Center: CLOSED
Hemingway Park: CLOSED
Mills Park: CLOSED
Stevenson Park: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Youth Sports Basketball Games
Veterans Park: CLOSED
Veterans SportsComplex: 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Youth Sports Basketball Games ONLY

Note: Park hours subject to change pending air quality


City services will resume their regular schedule on Friday, January 10, 2025. Residents are encouraged to reflect on President Carter’s contributions to the nation and the world during this time of mourning.
The following facilities will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025:
• Carson City Hall
• Carson Event Center
• Park Facilities: Anderson, Calas, Carriage Crest, Del Amo, Dolphin, Dominguez, Fabela Boxing Center, Hemingway, Mills, Veterans

Mayor Davis-Holmes stated:
“On this National Day of Mourning, we come together as a community to honor the life of former President Jimmy Carter. His unwavering commitment to peace, human rights, and public service has left an indelible mark on the world. As we pause to reflect on his legacy, I encourage all of our residents to take a moment to remember his contributions and what they continue to mean for our nation and beyond.“
