The Revenue Division (also known as the Business License Division) is one of three divisions located in the Finance Department. This division is responsible for issuing and collecting all applicable taxes and fees for business licenses and regulatory permits, collection of City specialty taxes (Utility Users Tax, Transient Occupancy Tax, etc.), managing franchise agreements, as well as issuing burglary alarm permits.
All business activity, both commercial and homebased, must meet and operate in accordance to all federal, state, local laws, and the Carson Municipal Code.
NEW BUSINESS LICENSE APPLICATION: A new Business License application is required when applying for a new license, a change of ownership, or a change of ownership with a new Federal Tax ID Number issued by the IRS. Some business activities require a regulatory permit and additional fees, in addition to a business license.

ANNUAL BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL: The business license and permit (if applicable) is renewed and paid annually. The renewal notice and payment are due immediately following the expiration date of the business license. If the renewal notice and payment are not received within 2-months after the business license expiration date, a penalty fee of 25% is assessed and added to the account. If the account is renewed 3-months after the expiration date, a penalty fee of 50% is assessed and added to the account.
