LEGENDARY FUNK BAND SLAVE HEADLINES CITY OF CARSON’S JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION

The City of Carson and the Carson Citizens Cultural Arts Foundation will be presenting non-stop entertainment and many fun activities for the entire family as the City of Carson hosts the 2023 Juneteenth Rhythm and Blues Celebration, featuring Ohio-based funk band Slave.
The festivities will take place on June 17, 2023, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Mills Park in Carson, located at 1340 E. Dimondale Drive in the City of Carson. The event is free and open to the public.

Headlining this year’s event is Slave who had their first hit single “Slide” in 1977 which is still considered a classic globally until this day. Slave had a string of top-10 hists including “Just a Touch of Love”, “Watching You”, and “Snap Shot”. Other performers for the all-afternoon music festival include Greg Rose and the Greg Rose Orchestra, Sonny Green, and DJ Alcatraz.

Juneteenth marks the date in history when African American slaves in Texas first received word that all slaves were free. The news came to Texas in June 1865, two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Aside from non-stop entertainment, Juneteenth also features various stage activities, teen fun zone, and a variety of arts and crafts, food and display booths.
