CITY OF CARSON RESUMED ALL ANIMAL AND SAFETY CALLS SEPTEMBER 1, 2024

The City of Carson resumed the field services responsibility related to all animal and safety calls on September 1st. The city has a new Animal Control Officer that will respond to barking dog complaints, nuisance animals, stray animals, wild animals, dead animal removal, surrendered and found animals, and complaints of neglect. The officer will also ensure state, county and city codes are adhered to while assisting local law enforcement in conducting raids for suspected illegal dog or cock fighting.

The City of Carson’s Animal Control Officer will work with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Los Angeles County Department of Agriculture in dealing with predator animals, such as coyotes, and investigate allegations of animal neglect and animal cruelty.
Animal Control is a vital component of the Public Safety Department. Their efforts protect not only public health but also the well-being of animals, making the community a safer place for everyone.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) will provide limited service to residents after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays and continue to provide backup assistance to the City’s Animal Control Officer in the event of an emergency. DACC will continue to provide the following services: pet adoptions, pet license renewal, stray sheltering services and microchip registration.

“We value the health and safety of our residents and their pets. Bringing the field service in-house is not only cost-effective for our city, but it is also more efficient in addressing our residents’ needs,” said Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes.
