The community came togetherto honor the rich heritage and significant contributions of Filipino Americans withan array of activities that perfectly blended tradition with modernity.The tone of the event was set by Court of the Mr. Philippines USA 2024 whoemceed the majority of the program. The highlight of the celebration was theinaugural Adobo Cook-Off sponsored by Faring, where Carson’s finest chefsshowcased their culinary skills, stirring up an array of delectable adobo variationsin a friendly yet fierce competition. The air was filled with the tantalizing aromas ofthis beloved Filipino dish, as the cooks vied for the title of Adobo Champion.The excitement was further amplified by the presence of Apl.de.Ap, the renownedco-founder of the Black-Eyed Peas and a proud advocate of Filipino culture. Hisparticipation as a judge in the cook-off added a touch of glamour and underscoredthe event’s theme of community and creativity. The other judges included RexNavarrete, Councilwoman Arleen Rojas, Chef Tomecko Jackson and CulturalOfficer Edel Valencia from the Philippine Consulate General’s Office.Chef Noria Valiente -winner, Chef Johnny Itliong -2nd place, andChef Lawrence Flinton -3rdplaceIn addition to the culinary showdown, the event featured a unique Car Show,displaying Apl.de.Ap’s collection of retrofitted classic electric vehicles. Thisexhibition was more than just a showcase of cars; it was a statement onsustainability and the innovative spirit of the Filipino American community. Thevehicles, a blend of vintage charm and modern technology, symbolized theprogressive mindset that is a hallmark of Filipino American ingenuity.The entertainment program was equally memorable, with performances thatcaptivated the audience and celebrated the dynamic Filipino American identity.Myrna Salas and Dr. Jenny Batongmalaque were recognized for their leadershipthrough community awards. Rex Navarrete, a pioneer in comedy, had the crowdroaring with laughter, Apl.de.Ap’s impromptu mini concert with Janice Javier left anindelible impression. Leo Mercedez and Debralee Daco, each with their uniquemusical styles, added to the day’s festivities, creating a tapestry of sound that wasboth vibrant and soul-stirring.As the event drew to a close, it was evident that the Filipino American HistoryMonth Celebration had achieved its goal of paying homage to the cultural legacyof Filipino Americans. This was evident in the audience’s participation in FilipinoAmerican History trivia throughout the day. It was as an immersive experience asmany participated in tinikling including the Mayor and Councilwoman Rojas. “Itwas a day filled with joy, laughter, and a shared sense of heritage, leavingattendees looking forward to next year’s celebration with great anticipation.
