Carson Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Come Join the Fiesta with Free Music and Festivities on September 14

The City of Carson presents the 5th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration with food and music on September 14. The event is free and open to the public.

“Carson hosts this annual Hispanic Heritage Month event to sample the richness and variety of Latin-American cultures. I hope that everybody enjoys the great food, the awesome music, the dancing, and all the wonderful festivities this event has to offer. This is becoming a tradition that not only families from Carson enjoy, but friends from all over the South Bay look forward to attending every year,” said Carson Mayor Albert Robles.

National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions of Hispanic and Latino-Americans in the United States and celebrates the group’s heritage and culture and was formally recognized and established by an Act of Congress in 1988.

The festivities will take place at the Carson Community Center from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. There will be non-stop entertainment on stage, including the Susan Hansen Latin Band and a special appearance by actress, choreographer, and novelist Eliana Alexander as the headliners. The event will be hosted by comedian Ernie G. who is an empowerment comedian, corporate speaker, and mental health coach who teaches and trains in leadership, empowerment, and purpose.

Playing lively Afro-Cuban salsa and Latin jazz, electric violinist and vocalist Susie Hansen has been a favorite for over twenty-five years. Her ensemble, the Susie Hansen Latin Band, has performed to hundreds of thousands of people. Susie and her band play familiar and traditional salsa in Spanish, many original salsa and Latin Jazz compositions, Latin-style interpretations of American jazz standards, Cuban charanga music, and great salsa and cha cha in English. Their music also includes the popular Latin dance styles of cumbia, merengue and bolero. Susie has toured nationally with her band, and has personally appeared and/or recorded with Tito Puente, Orquesta Los Van Van, and many more. The band has opened for Los Lobos, Diane Schuur, Andy Montanez, and more.

Eliana Alexander is a multi-talented singer, dancer, and actress. She pursued both dance and acting upon moving to L.A. from Mexico City. She opened EDGE performing arts center, Kids Dance LA, and LA Dance Force. All three entities became world-renown for training top-notch dancers and choreographers. Her legacy continues to touch lives around the world through performance on camera that has earned her an Alma award and choreography that has earned her an Imagen Award.
