Press Releases Share Print #23-034 CARSON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES NEW ACCELERATED CITYWIDE STREET TRANSFORMATION MAINTENANCE PROGRAM The City Council unanimously awarded 4 construction contracts at the November 7, 2023, Council Meeting for the Citywide Pavement maintenance program. This program will improve the city’s roadway conditions at an accelerated rate. The development of the pavement maintenance program came into fruition in an effort to address the concerns of residents for street maintenance to be prioritized. The street repair will occur simultaneously across all four districts. The council and city management office recognizes the importance of efficient transportation options throughout the city. Over $30 million has been allocated to improve the roadways including residential streets and arterial roads throughout the city. The street project is the first of its kind in the City. City Manager David C. Roberts, Jr. feels that “roads are the way that we all travel, which means that this citywide program will improve the lives of everyone who travels throughout Carson.” The Pavement Condition Index (PCI) will be used to systematically and methodically select the streets that will be paved. The PCI will be used to create a list of priority streets due to road conditions. Residents and visitors of Carson will be informed with repair timelines and alternative routes throughout this process. Implementation of this program is projected to begin early 2024. “Carson is a destination city, so it is important that our roads are maintained for optimal travel. Whether you choose to walk, drive, ride the bus, or bike, you should be able to travel on a well-maintained road no matter what area of the city you are in. I am happy that I along with my colleagues are implementing programs that will improve the entire city,” said Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes.
