City of Carson Announces Groundbreaking for Carriage Crest Park Expansion and Improvements
The renovations, with three new baseball fields, two new soccer fields, two basketball courts, three pickleball courts, a volleyball court, and a new dog park, are the largest of the city’s multiple park improvement programs
Carson, CA — The City of Carson is excited to announce the groundbreaking of the Carriage Crest Park expansion and improvement project, marking a significant step forward in enhancing recreational spaces for the local community. Located in the southern area of Carson, Carriage Crest Park will undergo significant renovations and expansion, transforming it into a more dynamic and inclusive park for residents of all ages and interests.
“We are thrilled to break ground on the Carriage Crest Park expansion,” said Lula Davis-Holmes, Mayor of the City of Carson. “This project will provide our residents with various recreational opportunities, from sports fields and courts to a dog park and fitness areas. With these upgrades, Carriage Crest Park will be a cornerstone of community activity in Carson, offering a safe, modern, and welcoming environment for all. We at the city council are committed to creating spaces that improve the quality of life for our community and bring families and neighbors together.”
The park’s expansion spans approximately 14.7 acres and includes a newly acquired 9.43-acre lot to the east, previously a nursery. The total park area will now accommodate a variety of new and upgraded facilities aimed at enriching recreational experiences and providing a safe, welcoming environment for community members to gather and enjoy outdoor activities.
Key improvements include: • Three new baseball fields with dugouts and shaded bleachers for enhanced spectator comfort. • Two soccer fields designed for both youth and adult play. • A new dog park for pet owners to enjoy, complete with a dedicated parking lot for easy access. • Two basketball courts, three pickleball courts, and a volleyball court, providing a wide range of sports options for all ages. • A fitness area and a new playground, encouraging active lifestyles for residents of all ages. • A new concession stand and restroom facilities, strategically located to serve park visitors during events and activities. • New landscape and irrigation systems, paired with accent and safety lighting throughout the park to create a safer and more aesthetically pleasing environment. • An expanded parking lot to accommodate increased usage of the park. • A new, enlarged digital park marquee prominently placed at the intersection of Figueroa St. and Sepulveda Blvd. makes the park more accessible and enhances community communication.

The total investment for this transformative project is $16+ million, funded by a $13 million State Grant and over $3 million from the City’s General Fund. Construction is set to begin in November 2024 and is estimated to be completed by August 2025. Once completed, Carriage Crest Park will be a premier destination for sports, fitness, relaxation, and community events in Carson.
