Press Releases Share Print #24-056 CITY OF CARSON SWEARS-IN THREE RE-ELECTED OFFICIALS AT CEREMONY BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS On December 17, 2024, the Carson Event Center was filled with over 900 attendees who gathered to celebrate the swearing-in of three incumbent officials. The event was kicked-off by a procession of Carson’s local youth: Ballet Folklorico Alma de Oro, Carson Park Cheer and Del Amo Park Cheer. Alexandra Taylor delivered a captivating performance of the National Anthem while California State University Dominguez Hills’ ROTC posted the colors. Adai Lamar, radio personality for Radio Free 102.3 KJLH, emceed creating an exciting and celebratory atmosphere.Mayor Lula-Davis Holmes, who was re-elected as the Mayor of Carson for a second term, was introduced by a special video presentation that highlighted her career at the City of Carson and her accomplishments as Mayor. Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn of the fourth district along with California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond jointly swore the Mayor in. Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Jawane Hilton was sworn in by Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell of the second district. His video presentation highlighted his journey to council and the impact that Carson has made in his life. Councilmember Cedric L. Hicks, Sr. was sworn in by Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal of the 69th District. The video montage showcased his contributions and various partnerships to drive the city forward.The evening included special performances by Nicholas Miller, NeiCe Knight, and the United Samoan Church of Carson Choir. The event was well attended with many having to stand in the back as seats were full. The night ended with all three elected officials gathering in front of their presentation cakes with photos capturing a momentous night for the City of Carson.
