General Plan

In 2004, the City of Carson updated its General Plan. The General Plan provides the framework for all zoning and land use decisions within a community. State planning law requires that the General Plan include a comprehensive, long-term plan for a city's physical development. City policy requires periodic review and updating of the General Plan.

As part of a jurisdiction's General Plan, California state law requires the adoption of a Housing Element to identify and address the community's housing needs.
Unlike the General Plan, however, the Housing Element must be updated every eight years to reflect changing conditions, community objectives, and goals.
