THE CITY OF CARSON ANNOUCES GROUNDBREAKING FOR MAJOR FOISIA PARK IMPROVEMENTS

Carson, CA - The City of Carson is proud to announce the groundbreaking of a transformative improvement project for Foisia Park, a 12-acre community park in the city’s southern area. The upgrades will enhance the park’s amenities, making it a more vibrant, safe, and inclusive space for residents to enjoy various recreational activities.

“Foisia Park has long been a gathering place for Carson residents, and we’re excited to break ground on improvements that will ensure this beloved space continues to serve our community for generations to come,” said Lula Davis-Holmes, Mayor of the City of Carson. “These upgrades will create a safer, more enjoyable environment for our residents, whether they’re here to play sports, attend a community event, or simply relax in the park.”

This extensive improvement project, set to begin construction in November 2024 with estimated completion by July 2025, is focused on upgrading the park’s existing features while adding new amenities that honor the park’s heritage and serve the community’s evolving needs. The renovation also includes upgraded lighting for enhanced security and visibility, ensuring that Foisia Park remains a safe and welcoming space for all ages.

Key highlights of the project include:

• A Polynesian-themed community stage of approximately 1,000 square feet, built as a tribute to the Foisia Family. The stage will feature surrounding synthetic turf for spectators and be complemented by picnic tables and BBQ areas covered with shade sails, creating an inviting space for community gatherings and performances.

• Renovated baseball fields, including higher fencing to improve safety, shade structures for dugouts and bleacher stands, and enhanced playing surfaces.

• A new children’s playground area featuring age-appropriate playground equipment and a rubberized surface for increased safety and enjoyment.

• An upgraded sports lighting system to improve visibility and safety during evening activities.

• New outdoor fitness equipment, installed at three strategic locations around the park, offering additional ways for residents to stay active.

• Renovated shaded picnic areas for gatherings and general improvements to the park’s turf areas and irrigation system, which will be replaced to better support the natural landscape.

This project is funded by a $4.25 million Federal Grant, with matching funds from the City’s General Fund totaling more than $4.25 million. This represents a solid investment in the park’s and community’s future.
