The City is pursuing state and federal funding to assess, investigate, and clean-up contaminated or perceived to be contaminated land in the City. These properties are commonly referred to as brownfields. We need the public's help in locating these sites.
What are Brownfields? Brownfields are properties that may have or potentially contain the presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminants that can affect or pollute the soil, air, and water.
Where are the Brownfields? Brownfield sites are often vacant and underutilized properties previously used for industrial or commercial activities that may have resulted in contamination. Examples include a historic factory, closed gas station, open dump site or vacant lot.
What are the benefits of brownfield redevelopment?
Property owners who cleanup and reuse brownfields provide many benefits including:

How can you help?
We are asking members of the public to help us locate brownfield sites by filling out

nomination form. The form can also be filled out via the following QR code:
Once nominated sites are brought to our attention, our team will work with the eligible property owners to find brownfield grant funding to transform these sites to its full redevelopment potential. Completed nomination forms submitted to the City will be enroll in a raffle for a chance to win gift cards to local Carson businesses.
How can the City help?
Brownfield Assessment funding (e.g., Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments) is now available for those interested in assessing the environmental condition of their property for potential redevelopment purposes.

Fun Fact
Did you know that the Porsche Experience Center in Carson is a brownfield redevelopment project? The 53-acre site was a former landfill and was transformed to a regional destination landmark for the City. The project features driver development track with eight educational modules totaling 4.1 miles, a changing race car exhibit, and a fine dining-restaurant.
